Go for it: Jessica’s CBS journey

Nov 15, 2021

When asked about her favourite part of the job, Jessica says “Every day, I love every day. My eyes are open, my feet are on the floor. Everyone’s full of energy and off I go”.

Jessica was inspired to become a support worker after seeing the care her grandmother had received from Community Based Support. She submitted her resume, came in for an interview and has been at CBS now for around 3 years. She works full time as a disability support worker helping our clients with personal care, chores around the house and getting out and about in the community.

Jessica recently completed her Certificate III which was supported by CBS with flexible rostering and workload arrangements. She jumped at the chance and is very grateful for the personal growth opportunity saying “I wouldn’t be where I am without that certificate”. She said she struggled with the assignments in the early stages but eventually everything clicked and she got the ball rolling to complete it.

On the subject of advice for those looking to get into the aged care or disability support industries, Jessica is a firm believer in taking the leap. “Go for it, you can do anything you want to do” she says. Community Based Support is working on a new values project that will shape the way we do things going forward. All staff have been included in the process and Jessica recently attended one of the workshops. Two themes in particular stood out for her. “Definitely respect and communication are a key in our job” says Jessica.

Jessica is looking forward to continuing her career at CBS and is keen to participate in future personal development and training opportunities.
