The power of friendship
Oct 28, 2021
Ray has been coming to our social hub in New Town for a number of years and we recently caught up with him for a chat. Ray’s a keen model builder and collector and has just completed a stunning model of the USS Indianapolis, a naval ship with an interesting but tragic past.
Ray was feeling a little uninspired and frustrated halfway through the build and told his friends at the hub. They suggested he bring the unfinished model in to the craft room and offered to help with getting it finished.
Sure enough, with encouragement from everyone at the hub, Ray was soon flying along putting together final touches and completing the paintjob. Hub friends contributed to the build, painting parts or assisting with putting sections together and offering words of encouragement.
Ray is very proud of the finished model and credits the great friendships he’s made at the hub saying “It’s like a family, they all have different lives and I enjoy hearing their stories. I’ve learned a lot by just listening to people and having a conversation”.
Ray has a bit of a cheeky side and loves to have a laugh and banter with our CBS staff at the New Town hub. “You can rile them up and they’ll play along with it, I like that they’re friendly and open to having a bit of fun” says Ray fondly.
Ray suffered an unfortunate fall at home a few years ago which led to reduced mobility and requires ongoing physical therapy and pain management. CBS provides personal domestic care for Ray at home in addition to the social hub activities. He lives just around the corner with his terrier Sumo so gets his daily exercise in by walking down to the hub as well as joining us on some of our outings with his friends.
