Maintaining independence: Irene’s story
Dec 30, 2021
Irene Norris has a renewed appreciation for her garden after the CBS home modification team installed a ramp so that she could access it more readily.
“The ramp is working really well, it saves me having to go all the way around the house”, a delighted Irene said. She also asked for help with a dodgy door which is now opening smoothly and quietly.
A life of learning and social connection
Irene loves learning and has been busy with online study in recent years doing a Diploma of Arts and a certificate in Sustainable Living. She’s very socially engaged too and as a regular at our Kingston social hub, she knows the value of keeping connected, getting out and about and meeting new people.
The Christmas program activities were a favourite with a big thumbs up for the Christmas lights tour and wine bottle decoration making. She was excited for the Christmas lunch with all the other hubs which she’d booked into for the next day.
Help at home
Irene also receives domestic assistance, garden maintenance and spring-cleaning services. Irene’s support worker Tammy had just arrived when we phoned and they were busy prepping vegetables to make a tasty soup.
This assistance allows her to focus on the things she loves, while making sure her property is taken care of. This gives her confidence and and a sense of safety living independently. “I’m very happy with the services CBS provides, everybody’s been helping out here and in the hubs, they’ve been great. I’ve enjoyed talking with them all”.
