From the CEO – Murray Coates

Hello and welcome to the April CBS Connect newsletter. Since we last wrote there have been some key developments.

Firstly CBS has re-established its Client Advisory Group. The first meeting was held on Wednesday 30th March with the next meeting due to be held on Wednesday 31st May. The group’s terms of reference focus on being able to gain feedback and insights into topics that are important to both clients and CBS. Participants do not attend in order to represent themselves as individuals, but rather the broader views of all people who use our services. You would be very welcome to join, please contact Tracy Ferguson on (03) 6208 6600 for more details.

Most of you will now be aware of the changes to Home Care packages. On 27th February 2017 these packages became officially portable, meaning they may be moved between service providers if the client wishes to do so. Our Aged Care services team can provide you with any information you require. We are very happy to talk with your current provider if you wish to move your package to Community Based Support. If you know anyone that is not happy with their current service provider, ask them to give Community Based Support a call to see what we can do to provide them a service to better suit their needs.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) currently offers services to eligible people aged between 12 and 28 years. The service will expand to include 4 to 11 year olds on 1st July 2017. Community Based Support offers support services to people in the NDIS. We work closely with participants to ensure they get the most out of their packages.
Jackie and her Disability Support services team would be very happy to discuss your needs with you.

Finally from me, over the past 5 months we have been working on our new “I choose CBS because…” advertising campaign. We have worked with real clients, asking them why they choose CBS as their service provider. There was no script and no ‘polishing’ of people’s words, so what people have said is what they really think and how they really feel.
The idea of the campaign is to let the Tasmanian community know about CBS and the way it helps people to live the life they choose in the place they love. The campaign is being seen across a variety of media statewide, so keep an eye out. If you would like to get involved and let people know why you choose CBS as your service provider, please
contact Tracy Ferguson and she can discuss how this would work. Now everyone can be a star!

Until next time, I look forward to hearing your views and ideas.

Community Based Support is coming to a town near you!  Tell your friends.

The Aged Care and Disability Support services teams have been out and about visiting communities in southern Tasmania since January this year and will be visiting the north and north west of the state later in the year.

So far they have visited the Derwent Valley and Central Highlands. Whilst there, the teams ran a series of short 30 minute information sessions about how to access Aged Care and Disability support services. At the conclusion of each session, they spent one on one time with people, answering questions, assisting them to register with My Aged Care (MAC), helping people to navigate their way through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), as well as informing people about the CBS services available to them.

Between April and June, the team will be visiting the local government
areas of –
• Sorell
• Tasman (Nubeena)
• Southern Midlands (Oatlands)
• Huon Valley
• Kingborough
• Glamorgan Spring Bay (Swansea and Triabunna)

For more information about these information sessions, please contact CBS on 6208 6600 and ask to speak to the Aged Care or Disability Support team.
